Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s busiest airport, has taken a significant step forward with the opening of its brand-new Terminal T3 officially starting operations on April 17, 2025.
Terminal T3 is poised to become a game-changer for domestic air travel in the region—the new terminal features state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure designed to handle the increasing volume efficiently.
Key Features and Operations
Terminal T3 will primarily serve domestic flights, with Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier, leading the transition. By the end of April, nearly 80% of all domestic flights at Tan Son Nhat will be handled at this new terminal. This includes flights operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air. However, some routes, such as connecting flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao, Ca Mau, and Rach Gia, will continue to operate from Terminal 1.
Designed to accommodate up to 20 million passengers annually, Terminal T3 represents a major capacity boost for the airport, which has been grappling with congestion due to rapid growth in Vietnam’s aviation market. The terminal’s modern facilities are expected to improve passenger experience, streamline operations, and reduce delays.
Investment and Infrastructure
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has invested nearly 11 trillion VND ( approximately $434 million) in the construction of Terminal T3. The investment underscores the strategic importance of Tan Son Nhat as a key aviation hub in Southeast Asia. The new terminal features state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure designed to handle the increasing volume efficiently.

Terminal T3’s opening signals Vietnam’s commitment to modernizing its aviation infrastructure to support economic growth and m. The expanded capacity will facilitate smoother connections and more flight options, potentially attracting more international airlines and boosting the country’s position as a regional transit point. With the official inauguration scheduled for April 30, 2025, Terminal T3 is poised to become a vital component of Vietnam’s aviation landscape, enhancing both passenger convenience and operational efficiency at Tan Son Nhat Airport.
