So what exactly is Ground School?
Ground school for pilots refers to the classroom training that aspiring pilots undergo to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of aviation principles, regulations, and procedures. It is an essential component of pilot training.

Next up is Ground preparation. 
Consists of many hours of professional lectures. During this phase of the training, the VAA students will undertake 14 ATPL subjects, and 13 ATPL theory exams, which they must pass to prove a sufficient level of knowledge appropriate to the privileges of the holder of an ATPL(A) following the EASA Part FCL requirements. These units are as follows:

  2. Navigation
  3. Principles of flight
  4. Air law
  5. Mass and balance
  6. VFR – IFR Communication
  7. Performance
  8. Flight planning
  9. Human performance
  10. Instrumentation
  11. Operational procedures
  12. Radionavigation
  13. Aircraft general knowledge

The final component is KSA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) is a new subject area recently introduced as a compulsory module for students. KSA explores the pilot competencies, the non-technical aspects that airline pilots are assessed against including:

  • Application of Procedures
  • Communications
  • Leadership and Teamwork
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making
  • Situational Awareness and Workload Management
  • Application of knowledge, UPRT and Resilience
